Bien choisir son sol de marcheur et de rond de longe pour chevaux
The Hippocenter range of floors has been conceived to provide the greatest possible comfort when using a walker or a lunge ring. We offer you 3 solutions to cover your working tracks:
Creating or stabilising a floor with Hippotrack tiles
Sand is the most common material used for work areas. In order to prevent the sand from becoming too deep when horses pass over it, stabilising slabs must be installed underneath the sand layer. These slabs can be filled with sand or gravel to prevent the formation of holes or puddles in uncovered walkers and lunging rings and even in paddocks.
The Hippotrack slabs we offer are 4 cm deep honeycomb slabs. They stabilise the ground when it is not very firm. They are first filled with gravel for good drainage and then covered with a 15 cm layer of sand to cushion the horses' legs.
Making a floor out of Butyflex
Made from recycled rubber pieces, it provides excellent cushioning for the limbs, does not raise dust when working and does not need to be watered.
This material also has several advantages in terms of durability. It is a material that is not affected by frost and is easy to maintain because the manure slides underneath the material, keeping the surface clean when the horses pass over it. You only have to clean your horse walker or round pen once a year, the rubber shavings will separate themselves from the manure during collection.
Sold in Big Bag, this type of floor is best used in a covered walker or round pen.
Making a floor of wood shavings
This floor is made of wood bark, which provides an interesting cushioning effect. It also prevents dust from being produced when the horses pass through the walker or the lunge ring. It should be noted that this floor needs to be reloaded more regularly (once a year) and is only optimal for covered structures.
Installer un sol de rond de longe ou de marcheur
Depending on the nature of your floor, it may be necessary to consider a preliminary installation. If your soil is naturally firm, it is possible to lay the floor directly. If not, you will have to dig down a few centimetres to find a firm surface.
To install the Hippotrack stabilisation slabs, the ground must first be lowered if necessary, an earthwork of stones must be added to complete the levelling and then the slabs must be positioned. Their cells must then be filled with gravel to ensure good drainage of the soil. Finally, a layer of sand covers the whole surface to a thickness of about 15 cm.
Butiflex is best used on firm ground such as concrete slabs. It is also ideal if you want to cover your track with wood shavings, so that it retains its qualities for longer.
Whatever the floor you choose, our team will advise you throughout your project on the arrangements to be made before installing your walker or round pen floor.
Entretenir son sol de piste
In the case of a round pen or a walker, the passage of horses is intense at track level and the soil component tends to be thrown out. To remedy this movement of material and to maintain the quality of the floor, we advise you to opt for additional floor boards that keep the material on the track. This option is available for all our walkers and rounders.
Regularly clean the track with a dung rake so that the quality of the sand or shavings is not lost. This will also smooth out any unevenness in the ground that may have developed as a result of the regular passage of horses.
Finally, a sand floor will need to be watered from time to time to reduce dusting.
